Restart your Internet service

Occasionally your Internet service's modem becomes frozen and needs to be restarted.  Here is how to do it:

Comcast/Xfinity

If you have one of the boxes pictured below:

1. Restart the cable modem.  The Comcast / Xfinity box may look like one of these:

  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the box. Wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait a full 5 minutes for it to start up again.

2. Restart your router (if you have a separate one).  It may be labeled Linksys, Netgear, D-Link or Apple:

  • Unplug your router from the electrical outlet or remove the power plug on the back of your router. Wait 5 seconds.

  • Plug power to your router back in.

3. Wait about 3 full minutes, then check to see if your service is restored.

Century Link / Qwest

Do NOT push the reset button on the back of your Century Link or Qwest box

To restart the modem:

  1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the modem. Verify you have unplugged the correct cord by checking that all the lights on the modem are turned OFF.

  2. Wait 10 seconds, and plug the power cord back into the modem.

  3. Wait for the Internet light to turn green.

  4. Check to see if your service is restored.
